Rajiv Gandhi, in his brief life, has left an indelible imprint on the country. His vision of a vibrant future, youthful dynamism and his commitment to promotion of goodwill amongst all, regardless of caste, creed, color, language and religion endeared him not only to his countrymen but also to the entire world. 

To commemorate the lasting contribution made by Shri Rajiv Gandhi to promote peace and communal harmony and fight against violence and terrorism, the then President of Indian National Congress in the Golden Jubilee Year of  “Quit India Movement”, instituted the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award to be given on his birthday, 20th August. 

The Award carries a citation and cash award of 10 lakh rupees to be given either to persons or institutions who have made outstanding contribution to promote communal harmony or to the fight against terrorism and violence.

The 25th Award for the Year 2018-19 would be in recognition of outstanding contribution to the cause of National Sadbhavana, either by distinguished individuals or associations, in the years and two years immediately preceding it. 

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee, Dr Karan Singh, Ex-Member of Parliament, invites proposals for the Award latest by 14th July 2020 in the prescribed form, which can be obtained from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Trust Office, 24 Akbar Road, New Delhi - 110011.

The Award has so far been given to Mother Teresa, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Shri Mohd. Yunus, Shri Hiteshwar Sakia & Smt Subhadra Joshi (Jointly), Ms Lata Mangeshkar, Shri Sunil Dutt, Shri J.N.Kaul, Shri Dilip Kumar, Dr (Smt) Kapila Vatsyayan, Smt Teesta Setalvad & Shri Harsh Mander (Jointly), Shri S.N. Subba Rao, Swami Agnivesh & Shri Madari Moideen (Jointly), Shri K.R. Narayanan, Ms. Nirmala Deshpande, Shri Hem Dutta, Professor N. Radhakrishnan, Shri Gautam Bhai, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, SPIC MACAY, Dr D.R. Mehta, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Shri Muzaffar Ali, Ms Shubha Mudgal and Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
