Aajibaichi Shala Is India’s Only School For Grandmothers!

We take so many things for granted as part of our daily routine. Little do we know, however, how much people value the things we consider blasé. This dawned on Yogendra Bangar in 2016, the founder of the Aajibaichi Shala, a school for grandmothers. He started the school after a grandmother mentioned wanting to read the holy books, but was unable to do so, due to her lack of education. That one incident immediately motivated Yogendra to start up a school for students aged between 60 to 90. His oldest student is in fact, 90 years old! The school was inaugurated on March 8th, 2016, on Women’s Day. The grandmothers all make their way to school happily, as they learn to read, write, and multiply in Marathi. They don’t even get sent home without homework (which their grandchildren are most happy to help them with.)
