The gadgets would be provided to speed up sanction and monitoring of schemes. Each mukhiya will get Rs 8,000 to purchase a smart phone. District magistrates have been given the responsibility of selecting personal assistants for village heads who have sound knowledge of operating laptops and are skilled at using Internet. Bhim Singh, the state Panchayati Raj minister, said that the move is aimed at speeding up implementation of government schemes. “It takes a long time for an official letter to reach a village. With the help of assistants, mukhiyas can regularly update administration about status of schemes in villages,” he added.
