It is not everyday that engineering and pharmacy students in Telangana sit down in class to watch a movie followed by a discussion, and be evaluated based on their thoughts. But inclusion of a course on gender sensitisation in the curriculum does provide that much-needed break from their regular grind.
The book titled – ‘Towards a World of Equals’ is currently being taught to students in almost 390 Engineering and Pharmacy colleges affiliated to JNTU.
DrSuneethaAchyuta, senior researcher at Anveshi Research Centre for Women’s Studies, and one of the co-editors of the book, talks about what went into preparing a curriculum aimed to break gender roles and stereotypes that date back to centuries.
