In Photos: Mumbai’s Largest Ever Pride March Drew 14,500 People On Saturday

On Saturday the people of Mumbai stood together and filled the streets with rainbows. Each year the city plays host to a Pride March and this years edition has been their most successful yet with over 14,500 people turning up to support the cause. Organised by Queer Azaadi Mumbai, the parade began at August Kranti Maidan continuing through the cordoned off streets all the way to Kennedy bridge. All traffic was stopped in these areas and Police made sure that the revelers continued on their way in safety. With colourful signs, dhols keeping the beat and smiles all round the crowd was a sea of infectious positivity. The people marching came from every possible background, from the very young to the very old and every gender, sexuality, race and religion under the sun. Dancing and singing, people used music to have their say, voicing their individuality within the crowd. Mothers supporting their children, students protesting the system and members of the LGBTQ community all showing that they would make their voices count.
