Let?s work together to make Washington County agriculture sustainable

It is hard to pick up an agricultural-oriented magazine without at least one article, op-ed or letter to the editor that doesn’t mention “sustainable agriculture.”
That is where the similarity ends. Everyone has his or her own idea about what sustainable agriculture means.
Many mistakenly equate organic production with sustainability. Others will say diversification will lead to sustainability, while others say specialization is the key.
While none of these answers is entirely wrong, none is entirely correct.
An agricultural enterprise is, like its products, a living organism and because of that, there is no one size fits all. That might work with T-shirts, but it doesn’t work with farming.
