The Cork Film Festival Launches Its Diamond Jubilee
by The Daily Eye Team October 16 2015, 4:36 pm Estimated Reading Time: 0 mins, 39 secsIt hardly seems possible, but the Cork Film Festival really has been going since the 1950s. Keeping heads above water involved quite a bit of struggle in the early days, but the event has managed to bully its way healthily into the current millennium. Principally funded by the Arts Council Ireland, the upcoming edition, which runs from 6th to 15th November, adds four new venues to the roster: the Everyman Theatre, St Luke’s Church, the Pavilion and the Ballymaloe Grainstore. The great English actor Simon Callow, a proud graduate of Queen’s University Belfast, will be in town for festivities. We will be treated to a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Rory Gallagher’s death.
