All is not well in the maternal health front in Karnataka.After sorting out issues with distribution of Madilu kits for nursing mothers and Thayi cards for expectant mothers, the State Health Department has now withheld payment of incentives under PrasutiAraike, another maternal care scheme for expectant mothers from Below the Poverty Line (BPL) category. The Health Department has not released money for this scheme for almost a year citing shortage of funds. As a result, maternity care in State-run hospitals has gone haywire.
